Spring Cleaning: Cleaning Your Copy February 1, 2010

Last week we were instructed to go through an online seminar called  Cleaning Your Copy: Grammar, Style and More, it allowed you to evaluate yourself on different aspects of writing such as Grammar, AP Style, Punctuation and Spelling. I learned, through a short pretest that my weakest points were in Grammar and Punctuation.

I learned that I am strong on the AP Style, and Spelling but I fall weak in the areas of Grammar and Punctuation. The pretest was very simple and short and it gave me a good guideline for reviewing and working on the areas that I fell short in. Each of the four sections had tutorials and a few questions at the end to retest you on the material that preceded it so that you are able to self check and make sure you learned and improved.

I was honestly surprised that Spelling was not a section that I lacked more in. I always find myself looking to Microsoft Word to spell check for me or a friend to help me. I believe that maybe all the asking and checking has improved my spelling somewhat and I was able to really show that in the Spelling section. I was also surprised that my Punctuation was not well, it is something that I will need to continue to work on beyond the tutorial.

I hope to continue to work on my punctuation and really be able to recognize the problems, because that is  half of the problem . With my upcoming assignments and works I plan to do more extensive proofreading that I have done in the past and even get my peers and teachers involved.
